Teenagers form Talamban Youth Movement

A GROUP of 22 teenagers from the different sitios of barangay Talamban have joined hands to form the Talamban Youth Movement (TYM).

The group aims to empower the Talamban youths and help them develop to become good leaders in the community.

The group in a statement said that they plan to implement youth-oriented and issue-based programs centered on values and information on children’s rights with the help of the Society of Youth Advocates (SYA) and the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Talamban.

The SYA are made up of young volunteers who have gained success in implementing values oriented programs and skills for the youths in the different barangays in Cebu City.

Jaime Mari Sanchez, a former SK member, formed the Talamban Youth Movement to help address the high rate of high school dropouts, the increase in the number of young people using illegal drugs, and low awareness among the youth on their basic rights.

The TYM officers and members are set to implement their goals after the launching of their organization on April 9 at 7 p.m. at the Talamban Sports Complex.

A short program and and an induction of officers will be held during the launching.

The officers are Karolyn Mae Serrano (president), Aeda Mari Minoza (vice president), John Wilbert Orilla (secretary), Hannah Gaile Ferolino (treasurer), Menchie Pajarillo (auditor), Mary May del Rosario and Mary Joey Intas (public relations officers) and Emmanuel Seno and Vincent Adam Hechanova (sergeants at arms).

The TYM is inviting the Talamban youths to attend the activity.
