Sara Duterte heads to The Hague after father’s ICC arrest

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte on Wednesday departed Manila to join her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, who was sent to The Hague in the Netherlands to face the International Criminal Court (ICC) on his alleged crimes against humanity.

According to the Office of the Vice President (OVP), in an advisory, Duterte left the Philippines at around 7:40 a.m. on Wednesday via Emirates flight no. EK 337 bound for Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Her travel comes after her father, Rodrigo, was sent to The Hague—where the ICC is headquartered—at around 11:03 p.m. on Tuesday.

The former chief executive was arrested and sent to the ICC following an arrest warrant against him for the crimes against humanity he allegedly committed during his administration’s bloody war against illegal drugs.

The infamous drug war left at least 6,000 people dead.
