74 overseas Filipino workers return from Lebanon

Fifteen overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and three children, who are affected by the escalating tension in Lebanon, safely arrived at the NAIA Terminal 3 in Pasay City, this morning, August 17, 2024. The 15 OFWs voluntarily requested for repatriation, and received immediate assistance and reintegration support upon their arrival. The repatriation of the OFWs was in coordination with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration. The Philippine Embassy in Lebanon recently issued an advisory urging all Filipinos in the said country to evacuate while the airport remains operational. MANILA, Philippines — Seventy-four overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have safely returned to the country from Lebanon, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

In a report on Wednesday night, the DMW disclosed that the OFWs arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 in Pasay City last February.

It added that the migrant workers “voluntarily availed themselves of the government repatriation program” so that they go back to the Philippines.

“The repatriation of the batch brings the total to 1,564 OFWs and 65 dependents who have safely returned from Lebanon through Philippine government on-site, shelter, repatriation and post-arrival assistance since the start of Israel-Hamas conflict in October 2023,” the agency said.
