No ban yet on OFWs to Kuwait

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) clarified on Saturday that no decision has been reached on the proposed deployment ban of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to Kuwait.

Foreign Undersecretary Eduardo Jose De Vega said the DFA and the Department of Migrant Workers are still discussing the issue.

“There needs to be a mechanism that has permanence to it, which means there have to be stronger guarantees, not just the 2018 agreement,” De Vega said during a news forum in Quezon City.

De Vega said the DFA wants any ban to be well thought out because of its implications on bilateral relations. “The President just talked to the Kuwaiti emir a few years ago when he was not yet the emir,” he added. —PNA
