MANILA, Philippines — One of the two overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) earlier listed in critical condition, after a fire broke out in a residential building in Kuwait, is now on the road to recovery, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said on Monday.
“’Yung isang nasa ICU nakalabas na, nasa ward na siya ngayon at gumagaling na siya,” DMW Secretary Hans Cacdac said in an interview over Radyo 630.
(One OFWwho was in the ICU has now moved to the ward, and is already recovering.)
Meanwhile, the other OFW in critical care is still in the ICU, he added.
The fire broke out at dawn last Wednesday in the densely populated residential building located in the Mangaf area.
More than 35 people died, including three OFWs, while dozens more were injured.
According to Cacdac, the repatriation of the remains of the three OFWs is still being arranged with Kuwaiti authorities.
“’Yon pong tatlong labi ng mga nasawi sa Kuwait isinasaayos pa natin ‘yung kanilang pag-uwi and we’re coordinating with the Kuwaiti authorities and our embassy in Kuwait,” said Cacdac.

Meanwhile, Cacdac said the DMW is also currently arranging the return of some of the Filipinos affected by the fire.
