Kuwait building fire: 2 OFWs in critical condition

 

More than 35 dead, dozens injured in Kuwait building fire 

MANILA, Philippines — Two overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) are in critical condition after the a fire broke out in a heavily populated residential building south of Kuwait City.

Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Administrator Arnell Ignacio confirmed the matter to INQUIRER.net on Thursday. 

“The fire erupted in a densely populated worker’s residence. Most deaths were due to smoke inhalation while residents were sleeping and a significant number of occupants were evacuated,” said Ignacio.

“[They] were brought to the ICU of Adan Hospital, intubated, in ventilator and in critical condition,” he said.

According to international media, Kuwait’s Health Ministry said the blaze broke out at dawn on Wednesday in the Mangaf area. 

More than 35 people died while dozens more were injured.

In  a separate statement, the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait conveyed its deepest sympathies to the State of Kuwait over the incident. 

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this devastating incident,” said the embassy. 

“We convey our sincere wishes for the speedy recovery of those injured,” it added.
