MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday announced Saudi Arabia’s continuing payout to overseas Filipino workers (OFW) affected by firms which went bankrupt several years ago.
According to Marcos, over 1,000 cheques were issued by the Saudi Arabian government to OFWs, as part of the promise of the Crown Prince Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud.
“Naka-process na ang Overseas Filipino Bank at Land Bank, 1,104 Alinma Bank Indemnity Cheques. Yung Alimna Bank yung ginagamit sa Saudi Arabia. Ang halaga ng mga na-release na na tseke is P868,740,544 in peso ang rinelease na,” Marcos said in a Facebook Reel.
(The Overseas Filipino Bank and Land Bank have processed 1,104 Alinma Bank Indemnity Cheques. Alumna Bank is what Saudi Arabia uses. The value of the cheques released is P868,740,544.)
Marcos said that out of the 1,104 cheques, 843 have been cleared.
“Patuloy na ang pagbayad ng insurance ng Saudi Arabia sa mga empleyado ng mga kumpanyang nabangkarote na nag-file ng claim sa insurance,” said Marcos.
(Saudi Arabia will continue to pay insured employees of the companies which went bankrupt.)
Saudi Arabia has over 10,000 OFWs to compensate after several construction firms shut down in 2015 and 2016.
