MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Embassy in Tokyo is verifying reports that another Filipino was arrested in relation to the deaths of a Japanese couple at a house in Adachi Ward, Tokyo.

According to Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega, he cannot disclose further information about the Filipino to avoid speculations.

“Mayroon ding lumabas na balita—chine-check pa ng embassy—balita sa Japan na may hinuli pang pangalawang Pilipino,” he said over a Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon briefing.

(There is also emerging news—but the embassy is still checking—news from Japan that they have arrested another Filipino.)

“Pangawalang Pilipino na nakita rin sa CCTV [closed-circuit television], pero hindi naman magkasama,” he added.

(The second Filipino was also seen on CCTV, but they were not together.)

De Vega was referring to a 30-year-old Filipina who was first arrested for allegedly abandoning the couple’s corpses.

Based on a report from The Japan News/Asia News Network, a 34-year-old Filipino was arrested for the same reason.

He even admitted to the charge, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
