The Philippine Embassy in Tokyo is verifying reports that another Filipino was arrested in relation to the deaths of a Japanese couple at a house in Adachi Ward, Tokyo.

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Embassy in Tokyo is verifying reports that another Filipino was arrested in relation to the deaths of a Japanese couple at a house in Adachi Ward, Tokyo.

According to Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega, he cannot disclose further information about the Filipino to avoid speculations.

“Mayroon ding lumabas na balita—chine-check pa ng embassy—balita sa Japan na may hinuli pang pangalawang Pilipino,” he said over a Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon briefing.

“Pangawalang Pilipino na nakita rin sa CCTV [closed-circuit television], pero hindi naman magkasama,” he added.

De Vega was referring to a 30-year-old Filipina who was first arrested for allegedly abandoning the couple’s corpses.

Based on a report from The Japan News/Asia News Network, a 34-year-old Filipino was arrested for the same reason.

He even admitted to the charge, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Moreover, the report also said that he was an acquaintance of the arrested Filipina.

On the other hand, de Vega noted that the Philippine consulate in Japan is set to visit the Filipina through “consular access” this afternoon.

The Philippine government is also ready to pay for legal assistance if she ever needs it.

Additionally, de Vega clarified that the Filipina is not being accused as a suspect in the death of the two Japanese.
