MANILA, Philippines — A meeting between Philippine senators and the Parliament leaders of the United Kingdom (UK) is expected to bring more foreign investments to the country, Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri said.
In a message on their parliamentary visit to the United Kingdom, Zubiri said that this cooperation will bring stronger partnerships to the country,
“We look forward to bringing more UK investors in, to help us become a stronger and more competitive force in Southeast Asia,” he said.
Aside from Zubiri, Senators Grace Poe and Bong Go were included in the meeting on Tuesday, with Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Speaker of the House of Commons, and Lord John McFall, the Lord Speaker of the House of Lords.
The leaders spoke about defense partnerships, modernization efforts for the Armed Forces of the Philippines, as well as trade agreements.
Zubiri added that they brought the issue of better benefits for Filipino healthcare workers in the UK.
“[W]e now look forward to working with them to see our discussions through, and make them concrete through trade agreements, through actual investments, through defense procurement, and through government protections for our OFWs.”
