‘Unbelievable humanity’: Filipina nurse killed in Israel refused to abandon elderly patient

DMW closely monitoring Israel situation, tells OFWs to take precautionsMANILA, Philippines —  A Filipina nurse was killed amid the conflict between Israel and the Hamas group when refused to leave an elderly patient behind, according to an Israeli official.

Fleur Hassan-Nahoum, the Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem, honored the nurse in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

“Angeline was a nurse from the Philippines who was caring for her elderly patient, Nira, on Kibbutz Kfar Gaza,” the Israeli official said on October 11.

“Despite having a chance to flee the Hamas terror attacks, Angeline showed unbelievable humanity and loyalty by remaining by Nira’s side during the violence, resulting in both of them being brutally murdered by Hamas,” she said.

“Unimaginable honor in the face of evil.”

 

Two Filipinos were killed amid the armed conflict between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

The DFA, however, has yet to release more details. It is not yet clear if the Filipina nurse is among the recorded deaths.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday declared war against Hamas in response to the deadliest Palestinian militant attack in Israeli history, according to a Reuters report.

Hamas gunmen invaded Israel from the Gaza Strip on Saturday in a surprise assault that killed at least 1,200 people. 

Israel retaliated with a massive bombardment of Gaza that has killed at least 1,055.
