PH condoles with Israelis following Hamas attack

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines on Sunday condoled with Israeli families who lost loved ones following the Hamas militant group’s surprise attacks which resulted in at least 150 deaths and scores of injuries on Saturday.
“The Philippines conveys its deepest sympathies and condolences to those who have lost family members and loved ones in recent attacks,” the Office of the President (OP) said in a statement.
Although there are no reported deaths among members of the Filipino community in Israel so far, the OP said it condemns the biggest attack against Israel in years, which also affected civilian populations.
“The Philippines understands the right of states to self-defense in the light of external aggression as recognized in the United Nations Charter,” it added.
On the other hand, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Administrator (OWWA) Arnell Ignacio disclosed early Sunday morning they are closely monitoring the situation of about 24,807 Filipinos in Israel, including 200 OFWs in the Gaza Strip.
To aid OFWs in Israel, the Department of Migrant Workers said it had set up a help desk in coordination with OWWA.
So far, only one family has sought their assistance and is reported to be safe, according to DMW.
