MANILA, Philippines — Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) remained the top university in the Philippines based on the 2024 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.

Ateneo, however, dropped from last year’s 351-400 bracket to 1,001-1,200.

The University of the Philippines was ranked the country’s second best university but likewise dropped from the 800-1,000 bracket to 1,201-1,500,

Next to ADMU and UP were De La Salle University (from 1,201-1,500 to 1,501+) and University of Santo Tomas, which made it back to the list at the 1.501+ bracket from the previous “reporter” status.

Mapua University, which was in the ranking last year, was downgraded to “reporter” status.

As explained by THE, the universities under the “reporter” status are universities that provided data for the World University Ranking but did not meet their eligibility criteria to receive a rank.

According to the THE, the ranking was based on their measurement of each institution’s performance in teaching, research environment, research quality, industry, and international outlook.

THE said that the World University Rankings 2024 included 1,904 universities across 108 countries and regions worldwide.

University of Oxford in the United Kingdom topped the list, followed by Stanford University, Massachusetts University, Harvard University, and the University of Cambridge.
