PH, Estonia to sign memorandum for cybersecurity

The Philippines is partnering with Estonia to strengthen cybersecurity and digital innovations, the information and communications department said.

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines is partnering with Estonia to strengthen cybersecurity and digital innovations, the information and communications department said.

In the Tallinn Digital Summit on September 5, Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Ivan John E. Uy told Estonia Prime Minister Kaja Kallas that the Philippines is preparing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the collaboration between the two countries, in a statement issued on the agency’s Facebook page on Thursday.

“The proposed MOU between the Philippines and Estonia will pave the way for future agreements in other fields of ICT, support the government’s digital transformation, and enhance the country’s cybersecurity posture,” Secretary Uy said.

Uy also said that the DICT plans to establish policies on the use of artificial technology.

In 2022, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Kallas also discussed strengthening digitalization and e-governance efforts at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations-European Union Commemorative Summit in Brussels, Belgium.

The Tallinn Digital Summit is an annual event hosted by Estonia which brings government heads together to discuss actions for innovative digital solutions and technologies.
