MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Embassy in Thailand warned of false reports of 10 Filipinos who died in the earthquake in Myanmar.

This came after a magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck central Myanmar on Friday afternoon.

“The Philippine Embassy in Thailand received information that there had been news reports stating that 10 Filipinos perished in the earthquake in Thailand. This is false information,” the embassy said in a bulletin on Saturday afternoon.

“As of this time, the Embassy has not received any report of Filipino nationals who were harmed by this unfortunate disaster,” it added.

The embassy further said it was monitoring the situation in Thailand, advising Filipinos there to stay updated through official sources.

The latest tally by the Myanmar government said 1,002 people perished during the earthquake.

The Philippines’ Department of Foreign Affairs said no Filipino had been reported injured during the quake so far.
