NEW YORK, United States — Irene Marcos-Araneta will be the “special representative” of her older brother, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., to attend the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s longest-reigning monarch.

Irene Marcos will be accompanied by her husband, Gregorio Araneta III, Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said in a statement issued on Sunday.

They will attend the state funeral starting with the lying-in-state of the queen taking place on Sunday.

President Marcos is currently en route to New York City for a six-day working visit, including participating in the United Nations 77th General Assembly.

Queen Elizabeth II died at the age of  96 last Sept. 8 and was succeeded by her son, now King Charles III.
