MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday expressed “profound sadness” on the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s longest-reigning monarch.

Queen Elizabeth II, 96, died on September 8, Thursday, at Balmoral Palace in Scotland.

“It is with profound sadness that we receive the news of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in Balmoral Castle yesterday evening,” Marcos Jr. said in a Facebook post.

“She exemplified to the world a true monarch’s great dignity, commitment to duty, and devotion to all those in her realm,” he added.

Marcos Jr. also said that with Queen Elizabeth II’s death, the world has “lost a true figure of majesty.”

He added that Filipinos here and those working in England have “found ourselves having developed a great sense of affection for her as a Queen, as mother, and as a grandmother.”

“The world has lost a true figure of majesty in what she demonstrated throughout her life and throughout her reign as Queen,” the President said.
