MANILA, Philippines — A Filipino household service worker (HSW) who received an eight-week jail sentence for attempting to blackmail her married employer using intimate photos will be deported only after serving her prison term in Singapore.
Deputy Assistant Secretary Gonaranao Musor of the Department of Foreign Affairs Office of Public and Cultural Diplomacy said she will serve her sentence at Changi Prison after she pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal intimidation last Monday.
The 40-year-old HSW began working as a part-time housekeeper for her Singaporean employer in January.
The HSW and her employer eventually had an affair and even exchanged intimate photos of themselves, according to reports.
In February, the domestic worker asked the man for a loan of $3,500 to repay a loan, but when the employer refused to lend her money, the domestic worker threatened to send the photographs to his wife and tell her about their affair.
She then sent the photos to one “Adrian Wong,” with whom she apparently had an online relationship, and Wong used the pictures to threaten the employer.
Another charge of distributing an intimate image was taken into consideration in sentencing her, the report said. The crime of criminal intimidation faces a jail term of up to two years, a fine, or both.
