Pope Francis reappoints Davao archbishop as member of Vatican office

Pope Francis has reappointed Archbishop Romulo Valles of Davao as member of Vatican’s Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments (CDW), the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) news agency has reported.

MANILA, Philippines—Pope Francis has reappointed Davao Archbishop Romulo Valles as member of Vatican’s Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments (CDW), the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) news agency has reported.

According to CBCP News, Valles received his appointment on March 29, but the Davao Archdiocese has only publicized the appointment on April 17.

Valles’ reappointment was conveyed by the Vatican’s Secretariat of State to Archbishop Arthur Roche, prefect of the Vatican department, on March 18, according to CBCP.

Valles said that “it is a joy to serve the Church in this manner” and to represent the Philippines in the dicastery.

Pope Francis first named Valles and 26 other bishops to be members of CDW in October 2016.

Valles was president of the CBCP from 2017 to 2021.
