Philippines is new WHO auditor

MANILA, Philippines—The Aquino administration’s fight against corruption has gone global.

The Philippines has clinched the post of external auditor of the World Health Organization (WHO), presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said on Thursday night.

“We just won the position of auditor of the World Health Organization. We beat Germany, France, Spain and Malaysia,” Lacierda quoted Commission on Audit (COA) Chair Grace Tan as saying.

“We’re very happy for the credibility of COA being restored and its resurgence in the international community,” he quoted Tan.

Tan and COA Commissioner Heidi Mendoza are in Geneva, Switzerland, to attend the WHO vote for its external auditor position.

“Our permanent mission in Geneva headed by Ambassador Evan Garcia and Ministers Dennis and Maite Lepatan and the Department of Health delegation led by Health Secretary Enrique Ona were all out in their support,” Lacierda said.
