MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte will participate in the 13th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit through a video conference on November 25-26, his office announced Wednesday.
In a statement, the Office of the President (OP) said Duterte will engage with his counterparts from Asia and Europe in a discussion of their “views on multilateralism, growth and sustainable development.”
“President Duterte is scheduled to speak on Rebuilding a Resilient Future as well as on international and regional issues at the Second Plenary and Retreat Sessions of the Summit on 26 November 2021,” the OP shared.
This year’s ASEM Summit’s theme is “Strengthening Multilateralism for Shared Growth” and will be chaired by the Kingdom of Cambodia.
The ASEM “is an informal dialogue process involving 53 partners from” Asia, Europe, the European Union, and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Secretariat.
The meeting “aims to strengthen cooperation between the two regions in the spirit of mutual respect and equal partnership.”
The country joined the ASEM as one of its founding members in 1996.
