Duterte to join 2021 APEC meet on November 11-12 via video telecon

MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte will participate online in the 2021 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting on November 11-12, the Office of the President (OP) said Wednesday.

The OP said in a statement that Duterte will join his APEC counterparts at the 28th APEC  Economic Leaders’ Meeting in a “high-level discussion chaired by New Zealand.”

The regional leaders are expected to talk about how APEC economies can work together to hasten recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and promote an inclusive, sustainable and prosperous future for all.

The Chief Executive is set to likewise participate in the APEC Business Advisory Council Dialogue on November 11 wherein he is expected to “advance the Philippines’ position on addressing inclusion and sustainability challenges posed by the pandemic and climate change.“

APEC economic leaders are anticipated to endorse a 20-year plan to implement the Putrajaya Vision for APEC 2040.

The Putrajaya Vision 2040, according to APEC, aims for an “open, dynamic, resilient and peaceful Asia-Pacific community by 2040, for the prosperity of all our people and future generations.”

New Zealand’s charimanship of this year’s APEC meeting has a theme “Join, Work, Grow. Together. Haumi ē, Hui ē, Tāiki ē.” Its priorities are concentrated on “implementing economic and trade policies, increasing inclusion and sustainability and pursuing innovation for COVID- 19 recovery.”

The 21-member APEC is comprised of Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippines, Russian Federation, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, United States of America, and Vietnam.
