Biden calls for continued US – PH cooperation vs pandemic, other challenges
MANILA, Philippines — United States President Joe Biden pushed for continued cooperation with the Philippines in combating the COVID-19 pandemic as he greeted the Filipino people who are marking the nation’s 123rd Independence Day.
“To all the people of the Philippines, happy independence day! It’s my honor as President to send best wishes and the enduring friendship of the American people as you celebrate this joyous occasion,” Biden said in a video message posted Saturday on the U.S. Department of State’s Twitter page.

Biden underscored the two nations’ friendship as he marked the Philippines and US’ 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations and 70th anniversary of “strong alliance.”
“As we honor this joyful occasion of independence and friendship, let’s also look to the future, at the challenges our two countries must continue to work to take on together. From defeating this pandemic and strengthening global preparedness for the next one, to advancing the free and open Indo-Pacific region for all peoples,” Biden said.

“They enrich the American character, making our nations stronger and more vibrant,” he said.
The Philippines is a recipient of millions of COVID-19 vaccine doses to be donated by the U.S. through the World Health Organization-led COVAX Facility.
