DFA: Over 15,800 Filipinos abroad contract COVID-19
MANILA, Philippines — More than 15,800 overseas Filipinos have so far contracted the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported Sunday.
In its bulletin dated March 14, the DFA said confirmed COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad have reached 15,876.
Of this number, 5,281 are undergoing treatment, 9,554 have recovered or have been discharged, while 1,041 have died.
Of the total cases, 8,880 came from the Middle East and Africa, 3,144 came from Europe, 2,963 came from the Asia Pacific Region, and 889 came from the Americas.
“The DFA remains fully committed to monitoring the situation of overseas Filipinos and remains steadfast in promoting and protecting their welfare,” the foreign affairs department said.
Meanwhile, in the Philippines, The Department of Health (DOH) Sunday reported 4,899 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the country’s total infections to 621,498.
