MANILA, Philippines — A formal charge has been served against recalled Philippine Ambassador to Brazil Marichu Mauro, who is currently under investigation for the maltreatment of her Filipino household helper.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. said the formal charge was filed Monday morning and that President Rodrigo Duterte was already informed about it.

“Charge served on her at 8:25 a.m. today. I sent a Memo to the President on it,” Locsin said over Twitter.

“The Hearing Panel’s report and charge will be passed upon and approved/disapproved by the Board of Foreign Service Administration; and finally by the Secretary. It shouldn’t take too long,” he added.

Mauro arrived in the Philippines last November 2 after she was recalled following video footage released by a Brazilian news network that showed her maltreating her household staffer.

Locsin earlier formed a fact-finding team to officially start the formal investigation on the alleged abusive conduct of Mauro towards her household staffer.
