MANILA, Philippines — An estimated 60 percent of the around two million Filipino-Americans eligible to vote in the United States voted for Democrat Joe Biden, Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel Romualdez said.

“The estimate will be a little over 55 or 60 precent [who] probably voted for Biden, mostly living in California, where it’s one of the biggest Filipino community there and it’s known to be a Democrat bailiwick,” Romualdez said in an interview on ABS-CBN News Channel.

“But here in the Northeastern and the South there are a number who voted [incumbent President Donald] Trump,” Romualdez added.

He said that the Philippine embassy already sent a message to Biden congratulating him for his presidential election victory.

The embassy also thanked Biden and his running mate, Vice President-elect Kamala Harris for expressing their sympathies to the Philippines following the onslaught of Typhoon Rolly.

“We sent a message to him congratulating him but at the same time we thanked him a couple of days ago,” Romualdez said.

“He and Kamala Harris expressed their sympathy to the Philippines with the recent typhoon so we sent a message and they sent back a message thanking us,” he added.
