DFA: COVID-19 infects 2 more Filipinos abroad

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported Sunday two new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) among Filipinos abroad.

According to DFA, with the new cases, the total number of COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad has now reached 10,069.

Of this number, DFA said 3,190 are undergoing treatment, while 6,124 have recovered, or have been discharged, with 755 recorded deaths.

According to the DFA, there are 6,968 COVID-19 infected Filipinos in the Middle East and Africa; 1,165 infected Filipinos in Europe; 1,141 infected in the Asia Pacific region; and 795 infected in the Americas.

The DFA added that more than 153,000 overseas Filipinos have been repatriated back to the Philippines, of which over 8,000 brought home this week.

“In line with its ongoing repatriation efforts, the DFA remains fully committed to monitoring the situation of overseas Filipinos who are affected by the pandemic and remains steadfast in promoting and protecting their welfare,” DFA said.

As of August 31, there are 217,396 COVID-19 cases in the Philippines, of which 56,473 are considered active cases. Recoveries are at 157,403 while the death toll is at 3,520.
