The Philippine Navy hosted on Tuesday its first formal virtual meeting with the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN) based on a 2019 agreement, which called for navy-to-navy talks between the two countries.

Navy spokesperson Lt. Cmdr. Maria Christina Roxas said that Capt. Jempsun de Guzman, Navy assistant chief of naval staff for operations, chaired the virtual talks with ROKN international cooperation head Capt. Lee Han-dong.

“This year’s talks focused on the sharing of best practices between the two navies in defense against the dreaded COVID-19 global pandemic while maintaining maritime operational capability,” Roxas added.

She said both navies shared best practices and discussed technologies that could deepen security cooperation and diplomatic relations. —JEANNETTE I. ANDRADE
