DFA: 15 new COVID-19 cases raise tally of infected Filipinos abroad to 9,407

MANILA, Philippines — The total count of COVID-19 cases among Filipinos overseas has increased to 9,407 after the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported 15 new infections on Thursday.

According to DFA’s latest report, 3,279 of the 9,407 cases are still undergoing treatment while 5,462 patients have already recovered from the disease.

Meanwhile, DFA said no new fatalities have been recorded among infected Filipino abroad thus death toll remains at 666.

The highest number of recoveries and deaths among overseas Filipinos are reported in the Middle East at 3,896 and 394, respectively, DFA said.

On July 29, confirmed cases in the Philippines surpassed 85,000 with 1,962 deaths and nearly 27,000 recoveries.

Globally, over 16.5 million individuals have so far been infected by the new coronavirus, which originated from Wuhan City in China’s Hubei province late last year. More than 656,000 have died from the disease across the world.
