DOLE: 2nd batch of OFW remains from Saudi Arabia to arrive on July 20

MANILA, Philippines — The second batch of the remains of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who died in Saudi Arabia will arrive later than earlier expected.

This is after the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced that the arrival date of the next batch of remains expected to be brought home Monday has been moved by a week in order for the government “to fly home more remains of our fallen OFWs from the KSA, and pursuant to the communication of the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh.”

“More bodies of our dear OFWs will arrive on July 20 instead,” the DOLE said.

On Friday, the 49 remains of OFWs from Saudi Arabia arrived at the Villamor Airbase.  They made up the first batch of the 274 OFWs who died from COVID-19 and other causes to be repatriated by the government.

The remains were initially scheduled to be flown home by July 4 but the repatriation was delayed due to logistical challenges.
