96 more Filipinos abroad contract COVID-19—DFA

MANILA, Philippines – There are 96 more Filipinos outside the country who tested positive for the latest coronavirus strain as of Thursday, bringing the total number of cases abroad to 5,355.

The latest update from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) showed that the spike in COVID-19 cases was recorded across the three major geographic regions, from the Americas to Europe and then Asia.

Of the total number, 2,788 are still undergoing treatment while 2,210 either have recovered or were discharged.  However, three more Filipinos succumbed to the disease, as the death toll reached 357.

The bulk of the cases are still in the Middle East/ Africa area with over 3,300 cases, but the area with the most number of deaths is in the Americas, with 152 of the 657 patients passing away.

As of Thursday, three of the countries with the most COVID-19 cases worldwide are in the Americas region, with the United States topping the list at 1.851 million and 107,148 deaths, Brazil with 584,016 cases and 32,548 deaths, and Peru with 178,914 cases and 4,894 deaths.

Worldwide numbers have continued to increase, now at 6.429 million cases — of which 385,884 patients have died while 2.804 million have recovered.
