DFA: Overseas Filipinos infected with new coronavirus tops 1,000

MANILA, Philippines — An additional 94 Filipinos in America, Europe, and Asia Pacific have been found positive for the novel coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2, increasing the total number of cases past the 1,000-mark, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Tuesday.

Data released by the DFA showed that of the total 1,084 infected Filipinos abroad, 662 are still undergoing treatment as 269 have already recovered. Meanwhile, DFA also said it recorded 10 new fatalities that brought the death toll to 153.

DFA then reiterated its commitment to support global and national efforts against the COVID-19 pandemic “by monitoring the status of our people abroad, providing assistance whenever possible, and helping those who wish to be repatriated in this time of the pandemic.”

In the Philippines, health authorities have so far confirmed 6,599 COVID-19 cases, including 437 deaths and 654 recoveries.
