PH govt OKs acceptance of China’s PPE, testing kits donation vs COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine government has approved the acceptance of China’s donation of personal protective equipment (PPEs), as well as testing kits, to support the fight against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

A memorandum by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea issued to the Department of Health, Department of Foreign Affairs and the Bureau of Customs said the government has approved the Embassy of China’s donation of 100,000 testing kits, 10,000 n95 masks, 10,000 PPEs, and 100,000

surgical masks.

The memorandum was issued on Friday.

“Given the critical need for such supplies, the BOC is hereby directed to expedite the processing of necessary permits for the entry of the abovementioned goods in the Philippines, subject to relevant laws, rules and regulations,” the memorandum read.

It was Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro “Teddyboy” Locsin Jr. who earlier bared that China will be donating COVID-19 testing kits, PPEs and masks to the Philippines.

He added that China will also be chartering a flight to the Philippines to send the donations.

As of Saturday, the Philippines has 230  COVID-19 confirmed cases, including 18 deaths.
