MANILA, Philippines—No Filipino was reported hurt or killed in the 6.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Myanmar’s northeastern region, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Friday, citing information from the Philippine embassy there.

The Embassy is in close contact with the Filipino community in Myanmar, according to Ambassador Hellen Barber.

There are about 340 Filipinos in Myanmar, the DFA said.

“As per Embassy’s registry, there is no Filipino working in Shan state,” the DFA said, referring to the area where the tremors did the most damage near the Thai border.

Dozens of people were killed or injured after the quake toppled buildings and collapsed homes in two towns close to the epicenter, according to news reports.
