MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Tuesday expressed its outrage over the killing of another overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Kuwait as it sought for the swift resolution of the case.
In a statement, DOLE said the recent incident was a “clear violation” of the agreement the Philippines and Kuwait signed in 2018 seeking to uphold and promote the protection of the rights and welfare of our workers in the Gulf state.
“The labor department is deeply saddened and outraged over the violent death of (a) Filipino worker in the hands of her Kuwaiti employer,” DOLE said.
“The department looks forward to the swift resolution of the case and that justice will be served,” it added.
According to DOLE, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) will provide burial and livelihood assistance as well as scholarship to the family members of the slain Filipino worker.
Road mishap in Singapore
The DOLE, likewise, condoled with the families of the two Filipinos who were killed in the car accident at the Lucky Plaza Mall in Singapore on Sunday.
The incident also left four other Filipinos injured.
The Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO), DOLE noted, is closely coordinating with the employer and next of kin of the two victims on the repatriation of their remains to the Philippines.
Burial assistance to the deceased OFWs as well as livelihood assistance and scholarship grants to their family members will be given.
DOLE added that livelihood and scholarship assistance have also been extended to families of the injured victims.
