OFWs warned on illegal recruiters anew

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has reminded overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to beware of illegal recruiters preying on household service workers in Hong Kong, Singapore and Cyprus.

The workers have reportedly been duped into transferring to such countries as the United Arab Emirates, Turkey and Russia on the promise of better pay.

The promised pay often does not materialize and the jobs would sometimes turn out to be nonexistent. —Jovic Yee
