DFA congratulates Japan’s new Emperor Naruhito on enthronement

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) congratulated Japan’s new Emperor Naruhito on his enthronement on Wednesday.

Naruhito became Japan’s emperor a day after his father Akihito abdicated and stepped down from the Chrysanthemum Throne, marking the end of an era in the world’s oldest monarchy.

“The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) extends the Philippines’ warmest felicitations to His Majesty Emperor Naruhito on the occasion of his ascension to the Chrysanthemum Throne, and joins the Japanese people in welcoming the Reiwa era,” the agency said in a statement.

The DFA said it also sends the country’s wishes for Japan’s success as Emperor Naruhito ascended the throne.

“On this historic occasion, one that marks both continuity and transition, the DFA conveys the Philippines’ wishes for Japan’s success, and the sustained momentum of the strengthened strategic partnership between the Philippines and Japan,” it added.  /muf
