BI to deport American rapist, Korean drug trafficker
MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Thursday that an alleged American rapist and a Korean drug trafficker arrested in Quezon province and Metro Manila, respectively, will be deported.
BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said Thursday that 44-year-old Adrian Dean Eddings II, an alleged rapist, was arrested by the bureau’s fugitive search unit (FSU) last Feb. 13 in Lucena City while 48-year-old Lee Yun Sung, who is a wanted drug trafficker, was apprehended in Caloocan City the next day.
Morente said Eddings is facing charges for first-degree rape and is set stand trial before a court in Pawnee County, Oklahoma in the United States.
“He is about to become an undocumented alien as the US embassy said it is in the process of revoking his US passport,” Morente said.
“He will also be deported for being an undesirable alien,” he added.
The BI learned that Eddings fled to the country last Jan. 22, a few days after the court in Oklahoma issued a warrant for his arrest.
Meanwhile, the BI chief said three different courts in Korea have issued arrest warrants against Lee. He was charged with violating Korea’s narcotics control act for alleged involvement in narcotics trafficking and drug smuggling.
“His name is in the Interpol’s red notice list of international drug traffickers,” Morente said. “He should be deported immediately as his continued presence here poses a serious threat to public safety.”
Bobby Raquepo, chief of the BI-FSU, cited information the BI received from the Korean embassy that the Korean fugitive allegedly smuggled several kilos of illegal drugs into Korea from the Philippines.
Raquepo also noted that Lee’s passport expired in June 2017, which makes him an undocumented alien.
Lee, the BI said, has been hiding in the country for more than 11 years and has been in the bureau’s wanted list since April 2018 when its board of commissioners issued a summary deportation order against him. /ee
