Palace condoles with family of OFW executed in Saudi Arabia

MANILA, Philippines—Malacañang on Thursday extended its condolences to the bereaved family of a 39-year-old Filipina household service worker in Saudi Arabia who was executed after being found guilty of murder.

“We would like to express our condolences to the bereaved family of the OFW (overseas Filipino worker) who has been executed,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a Palace briefing.

Panelo noted that the government extended legal assistance to the OFW, whose case does not apply the use of blood money under the Sharia Law or Islamic Law.

“We provided lawyers or a lawyer for her, and we gave regular updates to the family. It’s just unfortunate that this particular case in Sharia Law does not apply where blood money can be a reason to stop the execution,” Panelo added.

In a statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed that the unnamed Filipina was executed on Tuesday.

The DFA said they already informed her next of kin of the situation and said the family requested for privacy during its time of grief. /jpv
