OFW executed for murder in Saudi Arabia — DFA
MANILA, Philippines — A 39-year-old Filipina household service worker in Saudi Arabia was executed last Tuesday after being found guilty of murder, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Thursday.
In a statement, the DFA said it extended its “deep condolences” to the family of the unnamed Filipina, adding that it regretted failing to save her life.
Ambassador Adnan Alonto explained that the Saudi Supreme Judicial Court classified her case as one in which blood money did not apply under Sharia or Islamic law.
Alonto said the embassy provided a lawyer to the Filipina who was assisted in all stages of the trial. The embassy also sent representatives to visit her, and provided her family in the Philippines with regular updates about her case.
The DFA said they already informed her next of kin of the situation and said the family requested for privacy during its time of grief. /cbb
