DFA: Another Filipino drowns in New Zealand  

MANILA, Philippines – Another Filipino drowned while swimming in a river in New Zealand, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Thursday.

The Philippine Embassy in Wellington said

the 20-year-old victim drowned in Whanganui River, 150 kilometers northwest of Wellington on Wednesday.

His body was recovered on Thursday.

The DFA, however, deferred identifying the fatality.

The DFA said it extended its condolences to the victim’s family.

This was the third recorded death of a Filipino due to drowning in the last four months.

Kent Espinosa, a student, also drowned near Whangarei Falls last week.

Last October, another Filipino also drowned while saving his nieces, DFA said.

Philippine Ambassador to New Zealand Jesus Gary Domingo said they will conduct town hall meetings to promote water safety awareness to the Filipino community in New Zealand. /gsg
