Filipino student drowns in NZ

MANILA, Philippines — A Filipino student drowned while swimming with his friends in New Zealand, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Tuesday.

In a statement, the DFA reported that 26-year-old Kent Espinosa drowned while swimming with his friends near Whangarei Falls in Northland, New Zealand last Friday.

Espinosa was on school break from an Auckland school when the incident happened, the agency added.

Meanwhile, the DFA extended its condolences to the family Espinosa.

It added that Ambassador Jesus Domingo of the Philippine Embassy in Wellington is coordinating with New Zealand authorities for the issuance of appropriate visas for Espinosa’s sister, who will accompany the remains of her brother home. /gsg
