MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Wednesday called on the Filipino community in France to be cautious amid violent protests in Paris.
The Philippine Embassy in Paris also asked Filipinos traveling to The City of Lights to avoid going to Champs-Elysées, Arc de Triomphe, Louvre, Tuileries, Place Vendome, Avenue Friedland, Avenue Kléber, and other parts of France where protests are expected to occur.
The Philippine Embassy in Paris further advised Filipinos to not participate in the protests.
Philippine Ambassador to France Ma. Teresa Lazaro has assured the DFA they will continue to monitor the situation.
Last December 3, more than 100 people were injured in the French capital while 412 were arrested during what has been called as the worst urban riot in that country. Dozens of cars were likewise torched during that incident.
The protests began last November, as motorists in Paris were upset over a fuel tax increase. /kga
