PLDT, Smart prepare holiday welcome for OFWs
A 2017 survey by the Philippine Statistics Authority placed at 2.3 million the number of Filipinos working overseas.
Of this number, at least 150,000 would be able to come home for Christmas, according to the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.
Leading digital services provider PLDT and its wireless arm, Smart Communications, laid out the welcome mat for them on Friday.
Dubbed “Smart #OFWins Christmas Grand Salubong,” the campaign was launched at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) Terminal 3 in partnership with the Manila International Airport Authority and Duty Free Philippines.
Returning OFWs simply needed to present proof of overseas employment at the Smart booth to win goodies from Christmas trees set up at Naia 1 and 3 and Mactan International Airport.
