Manila International Airport Authority General Manager Ed Monreal
The Xiamen Air will pay for the damages caused by the closure of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport’s (Naia) runway after one of its passenger aircraft skidded off last Thursday, the Manila International Airport Authority (Miaa) on Monday.
Miaa General Manager Ed Monreal confirmed that the agency was still determining the total amount but Xiamen Air officials had already been notified about the need to pay.
“Meron po, mahaba lang po ang listahan kaya matagal namin magamit ‘yung abacus… Pinarating ko na po sa kanila ‘yun,” Monreal told reporters in a press briefing.
Airport authorities had been criticized for the closure of the 60/24 runway after a Xiamen Air hard landed and jet skidded off the runway during a heavy downpour on Thursday evening.

The mishap forced the cancellation of hundreds of flights and affected thousands of passengers as authorities took 36 hours to remove the aircraft from Naia’s runway.
Xiamen Air’s Chairman Che Shanglun has already apologized for the incident.
The official also thanked Miaa for its help with the passengers and with moving the aircraft from the runway.
