The number of Filipinos who will vote overseas at 2019 national elections has reached 1,600,746, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced on Tuesday.
According to the DFA-Overseas Voting Secretariat, the number has surpassed the previous record of 1,376,067 for the 2016 national elections when President Rodrigo Duterte won.
“Sa mga kababayan natin abroad, huwag niyo pong kalimutang magparehistro para sa overseas voting. Pantay-pantay ang karapatan natin: lahat tayo ay may isang boto at tayo ang pumipili ng mga namumuno,” Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano said.
At the present rate, overseas voters’ registration is expected to reach 1.9 million.
The following are the basic qualification for overseas voting:
- At least 18 years old on May 13, 2019
- Expected to be abroad from April 13 to May 13, 2019
- Not disqualified by law
Filipinos abroad may register as an overseas voter at any Philippine embassy or foreign service post, including three Manila Economic and Cultural Offices in Taiwan.
The deadline for registration is Sept. 30, 2018.
