DFA: No letter from career diplomats asking Cayetano to quit

/ 08:11 PM May 02, 2018

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Wednesday evening disputed a report that career diplomats had sent a letter to President Rodrigo Duterte calling for the resignation of Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano.

“The alleged clamor by career officials for the Secretary to resign as contained in the supposed letter came from some who do not represent the views of the entire career Foreign Service Corps,” the DFA said in a statement.

A newspaper report published on Wednesday said that career diplomats at the DFA would want Cayetano to resign over his “gross incompetence” in handling the diplomatic row between the Philippines and Kuwait.

“The Office of the President has not seen such letter. It is unfortunate that the Star published unverified information from an anonymous source,” the statement said. /atm
