PH should accept China backing for infra projects — political analyst

Depending on China for the future infrastructure projects of the present administration would do no harm for the country, a political analyst said on Tuesday.

Political analyst Clarita Carlos said the move of President Rodrigo Duterte to count on Beijing’s support for the country’s multi-trillion peso infrastructure projects,  was actually “pro-country.”

“It is really Philippines first. Kung merong America first, mayroon ding Philippines first,” Carlos said in an interview with Radyo Inquirer 990 AM.

“So right now, yang country (China) na yan, nagpapautang sa atin, ang daming alagang binibigay satin, tanggap naman tayo. That’s what it means,” she added.

The University of the Philippines professor also said that if Russia would also offer training to the Philippine military, the government must also accept it.

“If Russia is going to do that, Russia wants to train with our Armed Forces, tanggapin natin kung sa tingin natin ay ayon sa ating interest. That’s how it’s going to be, it’s not anti-you, it’s not anti-anybody,” she added.

Duterte is currently in China for the Boao Forum for Asia, an annual gathering of government and business leaders.

He is set to have a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on April 10.
