Cebu Pacific to mount special flight for repatriation of OFWs in Kuwait

Local airline Cebu Pacific Air has announced it would dispatch a special flight to Kuwait to take home overseas Filipino workers (OFW) who have been advised by President Rodrigo Duterte to leave the country in 72 hours.

“Cebu Pacific will be mounting a special flight to Kuwait to assist our kababayans who wish to be repatriated to the Philippines,” the airline said in a statement on Saturday.

“We are coordinating with the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait on the airlift details and other travel arrangements,” the airline said. “We will provide further information once these are finalized.”

A day earlier, Duterte that OFWs in Kuwait could go home at no cost amid reported abuses of Filipino workers there.

The president urged the OFWs to leave the Gulf state amid reports that a body of a Filipino woman was found inside a freezer in Kuwait City on Wednesday.

“So everyone who wants to come home, I said to Secretary Bello, those who want to be repatriated, with or without money, I will ask PAL and Cebu Pacific to provide the transportation,” Duterte said in a press briefing in Davao City.
