The i-Dole, the identification card of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), will undergo a three-month pilot run before it can serve as an automated overseas employment certificate (OEC) and an airport and immigration ID pass, according to the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole).
“After the pilot run, the ID will be the travel exit clearance of OFWs for two years from the issuance date and it will entitle them to travel tax and terminal fee exemptions,” said Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III.
The Dole is in the process of finalizing the guidelines for the issuance of the i-Dole OFW ID.
On Wednesday, the Dole launched the new ID card as a tool to facilitate OFW transactions with private and government agencies, including Pag-IBIG, Social Security System and PhilHealth, and for them to access their government records electronically.
The i-Dole OFW ID will replace the OEC, which is issued to all departing OFWs.
The i-Dole OFW card will also serve as a debit card and an ATM card for the soon-to-be launched OFW Bank, and as an MRT and LRT beep card.
